Founded by an awesome foursome
Karen & Rob Aubin, together with Karla & Hayden Brooks between them have more than 50 years experience in the haircare industry, yet they still had a bone to pick with the lack of Aussie products that actually worked for Aussie hair.
A vow to be different
Driven by a straightforward vision, the foursome decided Unwritten had to cut through the noise of over-hyped products, endless miracle claims, greenwashing and the overwhelming options offering ‘transformation’.

Out with disillusionment and over-promising, in with simplicity and transparency. We don’t believe in instant gratification, we believe in the highest quality ingredients that nurture hair back to health with consistent use over time. It’s simple: if we can fix hair in Australia, we can fix it anywhere.

Unwritten was formulated by Aussie chemists in collaboration with real hairdressers. Each formulation is a deliberately targeted balance of hair science and active native ingredients, not marketing hype. We strived for fewer products, with each one meticulously crafted to meet a variety of needs to eliminate overwhelming choice.

Our products have been thoughtfully designed and made to tread lightly on the planet from the inside out - PeTA certified vegan and animal-cruelty-free, carbon neutral, sustainably-sourced ingredients, all packaged in bottles made from 30% recycled plastic that are 100% recyclable. We donate a portion of every sale to the regeneration of Australian coral reefs because we’re as dedicated to the future of our planet as we are to the health of your hair.
