In a nutshell, an independent hairdresser (a sole trader) works for themselves by themselves, wherever they choose!

Indie hairdressers have chosen to leave traditional salon life behind (being employed by a salon owner) in favour of building their own freelance business. Indies work in all sorts of ways - as mobile hairdressers that come to you, they might rent a chair in a salon, work as a session stylist on film, photography or fashion sets, have a home salon set-up or a small space in a salon suite.

Some might do a few or all of the above! Indies love variety, flexibility, freedom and providing their clients with the very best one-on-one service and attention.
